UT Tyler
Experiences Record Spring Semester Enrollment
The University
of Texas at Tyler has recorded the largest spring enrollment in
the university's history, President Rodney H. Mabry has announced.
Official spring enrollment figures after the 12th class day are
3,807 headcount, a 12.8 percent increase over 2001, and 35,613 semester
credit hours, a 10.5 percent increase over 2001.
The spring semester headcount includes UT Tyler's Longview University
Center and Palestine
Extension Campus, which also experienced increases in their overall
headcount.
"This sizeable enrollment increase reflects the hard work of
our Admissions Office and the growing reputation of UT Tyler,"
Mabry said.
The spring enrollment exceeds the fall 2001 figures, which is not
common. Typically, fall enrollment figures are the highest because
most students enroll during fall and then a few leave for various
reasons during the year, according to Jim Hutto, dean of enrollment
management.
Since expanding its mission in 1998 to include freshman and sophomore
students, UT Tyler has seen a steady increase in its enrollment.
The student body is composed of a diverse group of some of the brightest
individuals representing 27 states and the District of Columbia
and 36 countries.
"Our university is among the top Texas public universities
for academic quality. Our students work hard, get a great education,
and have a little fun along the way, too," Mabry added.
