Local Musicians
to Present Jazz Pre-Show
Four Tyler jazz
musicians will present "Jazz Composition: What's Goin' On?"
at The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing
Arts Center on Friday, Feb. 1, Susan Thomae-Morphew, Cowan Center
director, announced.
The performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Braithwaite Recital
Hall. Immediately following will be the featured performance of
the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
"This jazz mini-concert is to help prime the audience for Wynton
Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. We will include
an explanation about what typically occurs on stage in a jazz performance,"
Dr. John Webb, UT Tyler director of the School of Visual and Performing
Arts, said.
The quartet includes Webb, saxophones and flute; George Faber, Dogan
Middle School principal, piano; Alex Blair, studio artist, bass;
and Chauncy Smith, percussionist.
