Seminar to be Held at UT Tyler
"Myth,
Message and Meaning of Islam, Christianity and Judaism" will
be 3 - 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 at The University of Texas at Tyler
Braithwaite Recital Hall, President Rodney H. Mabry has announced.
"The seminar
is designed for students, and members of the community are invited.
It will focus on the Islamic faith and offer explanations of Islamic,
Catholic, Protestant and Judaic religions," said Susan Thomae-Morphew,
Cowan Center director and seminar coordinator.
Anwar Khalifa
of the East Texas Islamic Society, assisted in the organization
of this seminar.
Participants
will include Dr. Zafer Hatahet, East Texas Islamic Society; Dr.
Mike Massar, First Baptist Church; Father Gavin Vaverek, St. Mary's
Catholic Church Longview; and Rabbi Avi Perets, Congregation Ahavath
Achim.
Dr. Michael
Dent of Marvin Methodist Church will serve as moderator during the
question and answer period.
The Braithwaite
Recital Hall holds 161, so seating is first-come, first-served,
Thomae-Morphew added.
