Tyler Honors B.J. Riter as 2002 Patriot of the Year
The
University of Texas at Tyler has named Mrs. B.J. Riter the
2002 Patriot of the Year, President Rodney H. Mabry has announced.
President
Mabry recognized Mrs. Riter, who was not aware of the award
until its announcement, March 7 during UT Tyler's annual President's
Dinner attended by almost 300 friends of the university. UT
System Chancellor R.D. "Dan" Burck spoke in honor

UT
Tyler to Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony for Recreational Facility
The
University of Texas at Tyler will hold the official groundbreaking
ceremony for the Health and Kinesiology Physical Education
Complex on Monday, March 25, President Rodney H. Mabry has
announced.
The ceremony
will begin at noon at the construction site. Shuttles to the
site will leave from the University Center beginning at 11:30
a.m. Students, faculty and staff are asked to ride the shuttle.
The public is invited.
"The
ceremony will recognize the donors and local and state officials
whose support has made the facility a reality. These individuals
realize that as a rapidly growing four-year university our
facilities must expand in order to meet students' needs. This
academic and recreational facility will greatly enhance our
students' educational experience," Mary Untersee, vice

Students
Encouraged to Return National Survey
All UT
Tyler freshmen and seniors have recently received the National
Survey of Student Engagement. To encourage students to complete
and return the surveys, Dr. Dale Lunsford, vice president
for student affairs and external relations, has announced
that grand prizes will be given away to two lucky students
who complete and return the survey.
The first
grand prize is a weekend in Dallas including hotel, meal and
entertainment. The second grand prize is a weekend in Tyler.
All students who return the survey will be automatically registered
in the drawing to be held in June. More>>>
Nursing
Program Receives Over $300,000 in Grants
The University
of Texas at Tyler nursing program has been awarded $325,920
in grants for projects involving the improvement of health
care availability in rural areas and academic preparation
of health care professionals, Dr.Linda Klotz, dean of the
UT Tyler College of Nursing and Health Sciences, has announced.
"Dean Klotz and the nursing faculty are to be congratulated
for their interest in meeting the health care needs of East
Texas," Dr. David O'Keeffe, UT Tyler provost and vice

Texas at Tyler's bachelor of general studies program, Dr.

degree is designed for students looking for a broad arts and
