Nursing
Program Offers Fast-Track Master's Degree Option
UT Tyler
will offer a new master's degree option for diploma and associate
degree registered nurses, Dr. Susan Yarbrough, assistant dean
for graduate nursing programs, has announced.
The master
of science in nursing (RN-MSN) degree option is available
this spring. Students may apply to this program immediately
and may register for classes starting April 1.
Building
on the success of the original Mobility in Nursing Education
(MINE) program, this option "fast-tracks" the student
through the undergraduate completion phase (22 credit hours)
directly into the graduate program (36 credit hours). The
student is awarded both the bachelor of science in nursing
and the master of science in nursing degrees simultaneously
upon the successful completion of the program.

Chemistry Department to Receive Grant for Research
The
Welch Foundation has renewed a Chemistry Departmental Grant
to The University of Texas at Tyler. The grant is $30,000
per year for three years beginning June 1.
The purpose
of the grant is to support chemical research by faculty in
the Department of Chemistry and to provide scholarships for
students to study chemistry through faculty-supervised research
projects.
During the past three years, faculty and students have presented
their research at regional and national meetings of the American
Chemical Society and Gordon Research conferences. Faculty
members have published their research in scientific, peer-reviewed
journals.
Based
in Houston, the Welch Foundation is one of the nation's oldest
and largest private funding sources for basic research. The
general policy of the foundation is to support fundamental
