UT Tyler Cowan Center to Present 'Porgy and Bess'

The Gershwins' "Porgy and Bess'' will take the stage at The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center Friday, March 8, Susan Thomae-Morphew, Cowan Center director, has announced.

The performance, sponsored by Norma and Jim Cotton, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Vaughn Auditorium.

Tickets are $25, $35 and $45 and are available at the Cowan Center box office. Box office hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30-7:30 p.m. the night of the performance.

Wedding Bells

Michael Martin and Cheryl Cushatt are married Feb. 23 at UT Tyler's Dub and B.J. Riter Millennium Carillon Tower and Plaza. The Martins made history by being the first couple to have their wedding at the Carillon Tower. Michael is senior computer equipment maintenance technician in the UT Tyler Computer Science Department. More>>>




Faculty-Student Summer Research Awards Announced

Recipients of the 2002 UT Tyler President's Faculty-Student Summer Research Program awards have been announced.

"Twenty-eight excellent proposals were submitted and 13 were chosen for funding,'' said Dr. Rodney H. Mabry, president of UT Tyler.

"The University Faculty Research Committee, chaired by Dr. Paula Lundberg-Love, along with Provost David O'Keeffe, and Faculty Senate President Dr. Virginia Beidelman, reviewed the proposals and worked through a myriad of decisions before bringing the final recommendations to me,'' Dr. Mabry said. "I appreciate their diligence and hard work in completing this task in a short amount of time.'' More>>>

Jones and Lovell to Head UT Tyler Soccer

The appointment of head coaches for UT Tyler men's and women's soccer was announced during a press conference Feb. 26 in the University Center. Pictured are, from left, Dr. Rodney Mabry, UT Tyler president; Kenneth Jones, head men's soccer coach; Jodi Lovell, head women's soccer coach; and Dr. Howard Patterson, director of athletics and interim dean of students. Soccer is scheduled to begin in the fall.

construction updates

Health and Kinesiology Physical Education Building - Concrete piers are being poured. C Construction had completed 85 out of 169 piers as of Friday, March 1. The piers are about 20 feet deep and 4 feet in diameter.

College of Nursing and Health Sciences Building - Construction documents are 100 percent complete.
