UT
Tyler Announces New Student Media Advisory Policy
The
University of Texas at Tyler has developed a new Student
Media Advisory Policy, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.
The
policy, which includes a new 11-member board consisting
of faculty, staff and students was rewritten after consultation
with the University's faculty senate, student government
association and student newspaper staff.
President
Mabry plans to seek additional input from professional journalists
before forwarding the revised policy to the UT System officials

Poets

Three
UT Tyler students received awards in the poetry contest sponsored
by Muntz Library in conjunction with National Poetry Month.
Winners were junior Charity Potter, center, first place; senior
Danny Stapleton, second; and graduate student Tamara Brown,
third. The awards presentation was held April 30 at the library.

PGA
Champion Justin Leonard to Speak at UT Tyler Patriot Golf
Classic
Justin
Leonard, winner of the 1997 British Open and PGA Tour Champion,
will be the featured luncheon speaker for The University of
Texas at Tyler's 2002 Patriot Golf Classic, President Rodney
H. Mabry has announced.
The tournament
will be held Monday, May 20 at Hollytree Country Club. The
event will consist of a field of 36 teams teeing off in the
morning and afternoon. Golfers will play a four-person shamble
format.
Proceeds
from the tournament will benefit the UT Tyler scholarship

Employee of the Month
Penny
K. Reynolds, professional librarian, is the UT Tyler Star
Employee for the month of May. The award was presented to
her by Dr. David O'Keeffe, provost and vice president of academic
affairs.

Clements to Speak at UT Tyler Commencement
The
honorable Rita C. Clements, vice chairman of The University
of Texas System Board of Regents, will be the guest speaker
during the two spring commencement ceremonies Saturday, May
11 at the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center,
President Rodney H. Mabry announced.
The ceremony
for candidates in the Colleges of Buiness and Technology and
Nursing and Health Sciences will begin at 10 a.m. The ceremony
for candidates in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Education
and Psychology and Engineering and Computer Science will begin

May 11
The UT
Tyler Cox Patriot Million Dollar Hole-in-One Contest begins
Saturday, May 11, at contest sites in Tyler and Longview,
President Rodney H. Mabry announced.
The contest
is presented in association with Cox Communications and benefits
scholarship programs for UT Tyler and the UT Tyler Longview
University Center. It offers amateur golfers age 18 and older
the opportunity to compete, at $1 per shot, in preliminary
daily rounds through May 18 at both sites. More>>>

Tyler Recognizes Young Authors
Winners
of the 18th annual Young Authors' Contest were honored during
an awards ceremony April 30 at UT Tyler.
In
the contest sponsored by the Reading Division of UT Tyler's
Department of Special Services, first- through fifth-graders
at Tyler-area public and private schools were invited to submit
entries in poetry, essay, narration and creative writing categories.
UT Tyler
undergraduate reading students judged the entries based on
originality of ideas, organization and continuity of thought,
writing mechanics and development of topic. Twenty-two winners
were chosen from more than 530 entries.
