Dr. J. Milford Clark, UT Tyler associate vice president for academic affairs and professor of educational administration, is the recipient of the Texas Association of Colleges for Teacher Education Leadership Award.

The award was presented during a Teacher Education Conference Oct. 21 in Austin, sponsored by the Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Educators. Recipients are selected annually by a TACTE Awards Committee based on personal knowledge, a letter of recommendation and service to the organization.

The UT Tyler College of Education and Psychology nominated Dr. Clark for the award.

“Dr. Clark has been involved in a multitude of educational organizations at the national, state and local level throughout his professional career, and has an outstanding record of service to The University of Texas at Tyler and the East Texas community,’’ said Dr. William Bruce, interim dean of the College of Education and Psychology.

“Dr. Clark is viewed by his peers in the field of education as a consummate professional both nationally and locally,’’ said Dr. Virginia Beidelman, associate professor of reading and director of the UT Tyler Literacy Center. “His quiet, but authoritative, style of leadership has earned the respect of all who know him. He is most deserving of this leadership award.’’

Dr. Clark served as dean of the College of Education and Psychology prior to being promoted to associate vice president for academic affairs in July. He led his college through a restructuring of educator preparation program support services, the implementation of the Center for the Professional Development of Teachers, the establishment of the Psycho-Biology Laboratory and the implementation of the Principal Institute and UT Tyler Literacy Center.

He is involved in a number of community organizations that provide for growth and development in the city of Tyler. Dr. Clark is active in the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and has served as chair of the Education and Human Resources Committee. He recently began serving as director of the Business Development Council. Dr. Clark is a longtime member of Rotary and has served on club, community and international service boards as a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Tyler.
