Dr. Andrew Lumpe Appointed to Roosth Endowed Chair

Dr. Andrew Lumpe has been appointed to the Sam and Celia Roosth Endowed Chair of Education at The University of Texas at Tyler. He is a member of the faculty in the UT Tyler College of Education and Psychology and College of Arts and Sciences.

The chair was established in 2000 by the Roosth family honoring the memory and contributions made by the family to the East Texas community. More>>>



‘King Stag’ Performances Begin Oct. 25

Dr. Mary Ellen Wright and UT Tyler student Connie Orr in costumeThe UT Tyler Theatre Repertory Company will present Carlo Gozzi's Commedia dell'Arte classic “The King Stag’’ Friday through Sunday, Oct. 25-27, at The Theatre.

Performances will continue Nov. 1-3 and Nov. 22-24. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays. More>>>

Nursing to Offer Flu Vaccinations

The School of Nursing is again offering flu vaccinations to employees and their families.

Vaccinations will be free to all benefits-eligible employees (50 percent or greater time). Benefits-eligible employees should bring their UT Tyler ID cards. Vaccinations will be $10 per person for all part-time employees and family members. Medicare cards will be accepted from those who have them. More>>>

Infinity Project to Enhance Math, Science Education

With a new partnership for motivating high school students and enhancing their math and science education, The University of Texas at Tyler, the Southern Methodist University Institute for Engineering Education, Texas Instruments and the Region VII Educational Center are bringing the Infinity Project to East Texas.

UT Tyler, SMU and Texas Instruments will sponsor a workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Region VII Educational Service Center in Kilgore to introduce East Texas schools to the program. The workshop is designed for high school principals, curriculum directors and math and science teachers. More>>>

Conference to Address Literacy in a Technological Society

The UT Tyler Literacy Center will sponsor an “Illuminating the Future Through Literacy’’ conference from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Muntz Library, Room 401.

Designed to promote the improvement of literacy necessary for succeeding in a technological society, the conference will offer a broad array of topics including early childhood, bilingual/ESL education, poverty’s impact on literacy, special education, children’s literature, the use of drama in the classroom and reading/writing strategies for elementary and secondary teachers, said Dr. Virginia Beidelman, director of the UT Tyler Literacy Center. Campus Life Committee Organized by Board of Regents

AUSTIN - The quality of life on university campuses for students, faculty and staff will be the focus of a newly established ad hoc committee of the Board of Regents of the University of Texas System, the board's chairman, Charles Miller, announced.

The Student, Faculty and Staff Campus Life Committee will meet regularly to deal with issues such as working conditions for employees, faculty and staff health benefits, student residence halls and food service, ethnic diversity, grievance procedures, campus climate issues and extracurricular activities.
