Smith, who served as banquet speaker.

As UT Tyler expands its programs to provide more student life activities, the Student Government Association is planning to make homecoming activities an annual event.

The university’s first homecoming activities were held Sept. 12-13, beginning with an alumni banquet Thursday at the Cowan Center.

“Our SGA motto is building a legacy, starting a tradition, so we wanted to organize a homecoming in order to give past and present students an opportunity to get involved,” said Erin Price, SGA treasurer.

UT Tyler freshman Brandon Rushing performed the national anthem on an electric guitar prior to the women’s soccer game.

A homecoming afterparty in the University Center concluded what is to become an annual event.
