Acosta Serves as Executive Assistant to the President

Jesse T. Acosta photoJesse T. Acosta has joined UT Tyler as executive assistant to the president.

A former lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Army, Acosta retired from the military and moved to Tyler in 1998. He has more than 25 years of practical experience in operations and planning management. He most recently served as director of administration for Curves International Operations prior to joining UT Tyler.

As the president’s executive assistant, Acosta will coordinate activities and projects for senior university administrators with general responsibility for the enhancement of operations and the flow of information within the executive staff. He also will serve as a liaison to campus, community and government organizations on behalf of the university.

“Colonel Acosta will expand my ability to respond more accurately and more quickly to people on campus, as well as to external constituents.’’ said UT Tyler President Rodney H. Mabry. “He will also assist me, as well as other university team members, in the design, coordination and implementation of a variety of special projects.’’

Twice during his military career he served in positions similar to his current UT Tyler office. In both cases he was the principle assistant and advisor to the General Officer commanders of large state side units. His most recent military experience was as the secretary of the joint staff for the Department of Defense’s single domestic counter drug task force. He also served as the secretary of the general staff for the U.S. Army’s Recruiting Command located at Ft. Sheridan, Ill.

A West Point graduate, Acosta also has master of business administration and master of military arts and sciences degrees.

His community involvement includes serving as South Tyler Rotary Club president-elect; Retired Officers Association secretary; United Way Allocation Committee member, American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services representative; and City of Tyler TREEs Committee chairman-elect.
