Kayla Fedowitz and Justin Duke won two important matches for UT Tyler at The Trinity University Invitational tournament in this weekend. Both players scored wins over University of Incarnate Word NCAA D2 players. The men and women’s teams traveled with 16 players to San Antonio to compete in the fall individual tournament. Other teams competing were Trinity, Laredo and Incarnate Word. The tournament was flighted, and consisted of eight singles draws and four doubles and was designed to allow players to compete individually without adversely affecting a teams record. (Trinity University won the NCAA National Championships in 2001 and is considered one of the best NCAA D3 schools in the country). “We are very pleased that we were invited to play in this prestigious tournament,’’ said UT Tyler Tennis Coach Ken Olivier. “The opportunity gives our players a chance to see what it takes to compete at the national level. The men’s and women’s teams both won matches at the tournament but mostly in the consolation draws. “We knew we were going to lose matches,’’ Olivier added. “We have a very young team (19 freshmen).
