Library Sponsors ‘Banned Books
Week’ Activities
The Robert
R. Muntz Library is joining the American Library Association in
celebrating Banned Books Week Monday through Friday, Sept. 23-27.
“This
year's theme is ‘Let Freedom Read...Read a Banned Book’
and we have a series of activities planned,’’ said Jeanne
Pyle, library director. “We invite you to join us by attending
one or more of these events and by taking the time to read a banned
book.’’
Events began
Monday morning with a First Amendment Signing Ceremony at 10 a.m.
in the library's second floor lobby.
Other events
will include:
Wednesday -
All-day "Read Out" of banned literature on the library's
second floor. Volunteer faculty, students, staff and other guests
will read selections of their own choosing beginning at 10 a.m.
and lasting until the last volunteer has read. Readings are scheduled
every 15 minutes.
Friday - In
LIB 422 there will be showings of movies based on banned literature
at 10 a.m., noon and 3 p.m.. The movies are being sponsored by 13
Ways, the UT Tyler Literary Appreciation Club. The library will
