UT Tyler Holds Official Groundbreaking for Braithwaite Facility

Groundbreaking ceromonies for nursing building

UT Tyler held an official groundbreaking for the David G. and Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Building on Aug. 29.

This significant, high-tech classroom and research building will be the home of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

“We are extremely pleased to celebrate this new building and honor the late David and Jacqueline Braithwaite, who have made this, and so many other great opportunities at UT Tyler, possible,” President Mabry said.

Academic Enrichment to Present Student Success Seminars

The UT Tyler Academic Enrichment Center will present Student Success Seminars designed to help students enhance their academic performance, Kim Livingston, student services counselor, has announced.

The seminars are open to all UT Tyler students, faculty and staff. Participants can bring their lunches to the Sept. 11 seminar. Drinks and dessert will be provided. Lunch will be provided for all other day seminars. More>>>

Nursing & Health Sciences Career Fair

Students and alumni were given the opportunity to network with companies/organizations and practice their interviewing skills, with the goal of securing a job. More than 30 companies and organizations participated.

Opera Appreciation at LUC

Lecturer Jim Yancy, second from left, is pictured with students during a recent reception for the Opera Appreciation Class at the UT Tyler Longview University Center. The seven-week class is one of several one-semester credit hour courses offered by UT Tyler. The course, which can be taken for academic credit or for self-fulfillment, is a basic survey of the literature of opera, its history and performance and includes familiarization with historic and contemporary singers through audio and video recordings.

Soccer Begins at UT Tyler

The UT Tyler men’s soccer team defeats Hendrix College 4-1in the first game of the season Monday at UT Tyler. The women’s soccer team played its first game Friday at The University of Texas at Dallas.

UT TeleCampus Outstanding Student

Michelle Del Toro, center, a UT Tyler student in the master in education degree program in health and kinesiology, was selected by the UT TeleCampus as the Outstanding Student for 2001-02. She is pictured with Dr. James Schwane, UT Tyler chair of health and kinesiology, and Dr. Sue Mottinger, a faculty member from UT Pan American. The award was presented at the Information Technology and Distance Education Conference in Edinburgh in May. Academic performance is a key consideration in the Outstanding Student Award. Other factors include demonstration of leadership qualities, going beyond the minimum class requirements and exceptional communication skills.
