Tyler to Offer Gifted and Talented Program
A
summer enrichment program for gifted and talented
middle school students will be offered June
9-12 at The University of Texas at Tyler.
The
program will be presented by the UT Tyler Gifted
and Talented Institute, under the direction
of the College of Education and Psychology’s
Southwest Educational Research and Leadership
Academy, and the Region VII Education Service
Center.
Students
in grades six through eight who have been identified
by Region VII as gifted and talented are eligible
to participate in the four-day intensive program.
Sessions
will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily
and include fun, hands-on activities ending
with an hour of technology activities in the
computer lab, said Dr. Gerald McGregor, institute
director. “Participants will have the
opportunity to learn from outstanding university
faculty and classroom teachers," he said.
Course
topics will include: “Discoveries Through
Mathematics"; “Spans Across Time
and Space: Science Through the Eyes of Explorers";
“Are You a Philosopher or a Scientist?";
“Imagination Knows No Bounds With Creative
Drama"; “Outside the Lines With Art";
and “History Repeats, History Repeats."
Tuition
is $95 per student, which includes courses,
the computer lab and lunch.
