Professor Honored
With Endowment
Dr.
Lawrence L. Anderson of Dermatology Associates
of Tyler and his wife, Dr. Svetislava J. Vukelja,
have given UT Tyler $50,000 to establish the
Gary Wright Diagnostic Reading Endowment to
fund diagnostic reading services for children.

Dr.
Gary Wright, professor of reading, has
been a member of the UT Tyler faculty
for 28 years. The endowment recognizes
and honors Dr. Wright’s achievements
in the area of reading and language diagnostics.
Instrumental
in the establishment of the undergraduate
and graduate reading programs at UT Tyler,
Dr. Wright is extremely active in, and
nationally recognized for, the diagnostic
testing of children in order to identify
reading disabilities. He is highly regarded
for working with parents to develop methods
to overcome those difficulties.
He
serves the community and region as a consultant
for many area schools, including All Saints
Episcopal where Dr. Anderson and Dr. Vukelja’s
daughter, Maxi, is a second grader.

He
is involved in a variety of professional research
articles, documented in such national peer review
journals as Reading Improvement, The State
of Reading Journal and The Reading
Teacher.
Dr.
Wright holds a bachelor’s degree from
Augustana College, master’s degree from
Western Illinois University and doctorate degree
from Southern Illinois University.
