Outstanding Musicians Perform at UT Tyler

The UT Tyler music program has announced the names of Outstanding Musicians selected in the Spring 2003 Piano Skills Festival.

More than 75 students from the East Texas area participated in the festival at UT Tyler, which included three events of technique, harmonization and sight-reading in January and two memorized repertoire selections performed for adjudication in March. Ribbons were awarded for each of the five events entered. Judges selected outstanding performers in each division level.

An Outstanding Musician Recital and Awards Presentation was held in March with selected students performing on the Steinway concert grand piano in the Braithwaite Recital Hall at UT Tyler’s R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center.

After the recital, Outstanding Musician trophies and medals were presented. Students receiving an A or A+ score in each of the five events earned a trophy. Students receiving four A or A+ scores and one B+ score earned a medal.

Outstanding Musicians are:

Tyler area – Students earning trophies were Lauren Callender, Mattie McKellar, Ellen Burton, David Michaels, Maddie Levin, Micah Parr and Meredith Moore.

Students earning medals were Russell McCook, Megan McCook, Meredith Harris, Marygayle Martin, Ward Prejean, Rachel Tullos, Leslie Chastain, Allana Busby, Erin Desmond and Sarah DeGroat.

Participating teachers were Judy Wilkins, Helen Elbert, Stephanie Krueger and Gail Hill.

Canton/Kaufman/Kemp/Terrell area – Students earning trophies were Joy Carr, Abigail Potts, Seth Potts, Jacob Carr, Grant Cooper and Jesse Carr.
Students earning medals were Caleb Potts, Jessica Key and Laura Lindsey.
Participating teachers were Phyllis Fox and Marilyn Wright.

Longview area – Students earning trophies were Cole Cammack, Christopher Yu, Chloe Yu, Catrine Johansen, Lisa Butler, Lauren Holloway, Kelsey Alexander, Kristin Burns and Elise Seldenrust.

Students earning medals were Leslie Stroud, Greg Wallace, Megan Wallace, Gracie Bourcier and Lauren Seldenrust.

The participating teacher was Laura Vermillion.
