UT Tyler Engineering Programs Accredited


UT Tyler has received notification from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET that both the mechanical and electrical engineering programs are accredited.

Dr. Troy Henson, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, expressed his appreciation to the engineering faculty for the hundreds of hours invested in the design, implementation and maintenance of continuous quality improvement systems. More>>>

Patriot Classic Raises Over $120,000 for Scholarships

The UT Tyler 2003 Patriot Classic raised more than $120,000 in support of the university’s scholarship program, President Rodney H. Mabry announced during an event wrap-up celebration Aug. 14.

Corporate sponsors Cox Communications, represented by Russell Hughes and Sue Saxenmeyer, Barrett Motor Company, represented by Bill and Glenda Barrett, and event chairs presented President Mabry with a check for $122,643. More>>>

Freshman Spotlight Program to Begin
Sept. 1

The Office of Student Development will begin a Freshman Spotlight program on Sept. 1 to honor outstanding freshmen.

One student will be announced each week as “Freshman of the Week.” More>>>

Meadows Gallery Plans Closing Reception for Exhibitions

Starwars’ “7-Up Club’’ woodcut The art program and The Meadows Gallery will hold a closing reception for two exhibitions -- the “Hot Dog Party’’ by Sean Starwars and “Sniff’’ by Larry Giacoletti -- 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29. The gallery is located in the Cowan Center.

Business Internship Helps Students Get Experience

Students pursuing degrees in business at UT Tyler can gain useful work experience by participating in the internship program, according to Dr. Jim Tarter, dean of the College of Business and Technology.

Employers stressed the importance of internships during a study of the accounting curriculum to confirm it met the needs of employers by adequately preparing graduates. More>>>

Yudof Names Vice Chancellor for External Relations

AUSTIN -- Randa S. Safady, an executive at The University of Texas at Austin since 1996, has been appointed to the newly titled position of vice chancellor for external relations at the University of Texas System.

The appointment was made Aug. 4 by Chancellor Mark G. Yudof. More>>>

McKinney Accepts Position at Health Science Center

McKinneyAUSTIN – Dr. Michael McKinney, vice chancellor for heath affairs in The University of Texas System, has been appointed the senior executive vice president and chief operating officer at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston effective Sept. 2.

The appointment was made by Dr. James Willerson, president of the U.T. Health Science Center at Houston, in consultation with Chancellor Mark G. Yudof. More>>>

UT Tyler Appoints Nancy Lamar as Director of University Advancement

Nancy Fagan Lamar will serve as the new executive director of university advancement at UT Tyler, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

Lamar, who has served as president and executive director of East Texas Communities Foundation, will head the university’s development initiatives, a responsibility formerly held by Mary Untersee Irwin who will retire Aug. 31, 2003. More>>>

USCAA Championships to be Held at UT Tyler

UT Tyler will be the host site of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association championship tournaments for men’s and women’s soccer, cross country and tennis, announced Dr. Howard Patterson, UT Tyler athletic director.

This will be the first time the soccer and cross country events will be held on the UT Tyler campus. The tournaments are scheduled for fall 2003. More>>>

Pool at HPC
Vaughn Recreation and Therapy Pool

Apartments – Proposals have been submitted for a design/build team. Details>

Baseball/Softballs Fields – Proposals have been submitted and are under review.

Dormitory – An architect has been selected to design the building.

Louise Herrington Patriot Center – Building to open soon. The 127,500 square-foot complex includes classrooms, faculty offices, indoor jogging/walking track, exercise equipment, free weight area, gymnasium/convocation area with volleyball and basketball courts, racquetball courts and an outdoor pool.

Parking Lot – A contract has been awarded to C Construction to construct a 245-space parking lot in front of the Cowan Center (facing Varsity Drive). Details>

Premier Soccer Field – Request for Proposals are being prepared.

Longview University Center monument signs – Proposals were opened in June. Details>

Palestine Signs – Request for proposals are being prepared.
