‘WelcomeFest’ Continues This Week

UT Tyler is kicking off the 2003-04 school year with WelcomeFest activities continuing through Friday.

WelcomeFest, which began Aug. 16, is coordinated by the Office of Student Development, with several student organizations, campus offices and individuals involved in organizing the events.

“WelcomeFest is a collaborative effort of the university community to reach out to new and returning students and to offer opportunities for them to develop relationships and interests that will serve to enhance their college experience,’’ said Shaune Martinez, student development specialist.

Activities this week include:

Monday, Aug. 25 – Activities at the University Center will include ice cream served by the SGA and Wheel of History presented by the Prescott Webb Historical Society/ Phi Alpha Theta, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the open area; and lunch served by the Baptist Student Ministry, noon, Room 118.

Tuesday, Aug. 26 – Activities at the University Center will include Student Development Open Door Celebration, 9-11 a.m., Room 111; Volunteer Fair, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the open area; blood drive, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Room 118; and lunch provided by the Alumni Association, noon in the open area.

Wednesday, Aug. 27 – “Winning Ways: How to be a Prospering Patriot” Student Success Seminar with lunch, noon, University Center Room 118.

Thursday, Aug. 28 – Student Organizations Showcase, 10:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. in the University Center open area; and lunch served by Cornerstone, noon in University Center Room 118.

Friday, Aug. 29 – Tailgate party and first home soccer game, 4-7 p.m. at the soccer field. The activities will be sponsored by the offices of Student Development and Business Affairs.
