Ashley Ward, student development specialist, presents the Freshman Spotlight Award to Geoff Sherman, an education major, on Dec. 4. Nominated by Ward, Sherman was honored for his great attitude, initiative to get involved on campus and scholastic efforts. Sherman plays soccer for UT Tyler, has applied to be an orientation leader and actively supports other sports and organizations on campus. He also is a part of the Freshmen Year Experience Program and has been a key part of his FYE section, Ward said. The Office of Student Development honors a freshman weekly for excelling in class, student activities, leadership, attitude or in other aspects of college life. Faculty and staff may nominate a freshman by sending an e-mail to freshmanspotlight@uttyler.edu.
