Four UT Tyler students spoke on their undergraduate research projects during an East Texas Section of the American Chemical Society meeting Nov. 18 at Stephen F. Austin State University.

The students are Welch Scholars who receive scholarships and financial support for their research projects from The Welch Foundation of Houston. The students, and their research projects, include:

  • Sean Butler, senior, “The Design and Synthesis of Novel Macromolecular Indicators for Use in Smart Polymer Coatings.”
  • Jason Distefano, senior, “Classical Studies of the Rotational Excitation of Atom-Diatom Collisions.”
  • Randa Gates, senior, “Computational Studies of Helium-Metal Hydride Complexes.”
  • John Brannon Gary, sophomore, “The Design, Synthesis, and Characterization of Novel f- and d-Block Coordination Compounds.”

Drs. Neil Gray, Jason Kautz, and Brian Taylor are the students’ research advisers.
