University Receives $20,000 for Scholarship Fund

The Greater Texas Foundation has awarded UT Tyler $20,000 for its scholarship program.

The Greater Texas Foundation established the $1.36 million “Removing Educational Barriers Scholarship” fund to help students at schools and universities throughout Texas.

UT Tyler is one of 34 institutions of higher education to receive funds.

Major Applewhite to Participate in Patriot Classic

Major ApplewhiteFormer UT quarterback Major Applewhite will be featured at the 2003 Patriot Classic sponsored by The University of Texas at Tyler.

The annual Patriot Classic will be held May 10 – 19. The classic features golf, tennis and the always-popular Texas “Shootout” Barbecue.

The goal for this year’s fundraiser is $125,000. Proceeds benefit the UT Tyler scholarship programs for students at the university’s Tyler, Longview and Palestine campuses. More>>>

Middle Schools Compete at UT Tyler

Hubbard Middle School students

About 100 students from Tyler-area middle and junior high schools visited UT Tyler to participate in the East Texas regional MATHCOUNTS competition Feb. 6.

Students participated in three rounds of written competition in mathematics testing their knowledge of numbers, algebra and geometry. Each school was represented by an official team of four students. More>>>

Lot 6 Closings Announced

Parking Lot 6 – the lot closest to the Cowan Center and Old Omen Road – will be reserved on the following dates:

  • Greater Tuna, Friday, March 7 – Lot 6 closed at 4 p.m.
  • Steve Forbes, Thursday, March 20 – Lot 6 closed at 4 p.m.
  • On Golden Pond, Wednesday, May 7 – Lot 6 closed at 4 p.m.

Portion of Lot Near Patriot Center to be Closed

C Construction will be barricading off more of the parking lot beside the Patriot Center construction site Monday night, Feb. 17. The fencing will be moved on Tuesday. This area will be closed until construction is completed.

UT Tyler Sponsors Exchange Teachers’ Visit

Patriots Overpower Austin College

UT Tyler men's and women’s tennis teams defeated Austin College by a score of 7-0 in their first home match of the season Feb. 12.

“The Patriot teams did not lose one set in 17 matches en route to victory," said Coach Ken Olivier. “The closest matches came in doubles with Austin Caudle and Steven Brouer winning by a score of 9-7, and Lauren Collum and Karoline Jacobs narrowly defeating Tiffany Anderson and Christie Van Duyne 9-7."
