Notice of Public Hearing
Chapters
54.0512(b)(4) and 54.0513(b) and (c), Education Code, State
of Texas, authorize general academic institutions in the State
of Texas to charge students designated tuition of $46 per
semester credit hour effective with the 2003-2004 academic
year. Therefore, in accordance with Chapters 54.0513(f) and
65.31(g), Education Code, State of Texas, The University of
Texas at Tyler will conduct a public hearing to receive comments
from students and the general public on a proposed increase
in designated tuition from $42 per semester credit hour to
$46 per semester credit hour effective with the 2003-2004
academic year. The public hearing will be held on The University
of Texas at Tyler campus in Room 401, Muntz Library, at 5:30
PM, Monday, February 10, 2003.

Spring
Enrollment Shows Significant Increase for Second Year
For the
second consecutive year UT Tyler has experienced a record
enrollment for the spring semester.
As of
the 12th class day, the official enrollment figures show a
headcount of 4,242, which is an 11.4 percent increase over
last spring’s enrollment of 3,807. The spring 2002 figure
was the largest enrollment for spring in the university’s
history.
In the
fall term just completed, the university’s enrollment
grew faster than any other University of Texas campus. The
spring headcount also is within 43 students of the official
total for fall 2002.

School Counseling Program Recognizes Grad Students

The UT
Tyler Department of Psychology recognized six graduate students
in observance of National and Texas School Counselor Week,
Feb. 3-7.
National
and Texas School Counselor Week is an appropriate time to
recognize the importance of school counseling services for
students, teachers and parents in the prekindergarten-12 setting,
said Dr. Shirley Jones, associate professor of counselor education.
“School counselors help students with academic, personal,
social and career needs and provide a systematic approach
in developmental, prevention and intervention programs and
strategies to help students achieve school success."

UT
Tyler to Offer Institute for School Superintendents

The
Superintendent Institute, a division of the Southwest Educational
Research and Leadership Academy, will be offered at The University
of Texas at Tyler beginning April 23.
The
institute is designed to provide practicing superintendents
and other senior district administrators with the leadership
skills and knowledge to transform their districts into centers
of excellence that work together in the joint enterprise of
improving education for all students. Participants will engage
in sessions geared to tackle educational and political issues
of the 21st century and will interact with key Texas educational
and political leaders.
