Area Teachers Attend
Infinity Institute
Teachers
from John Tyler and Chapel Hill high schools
attended UT Tyler’s first Infinity Summer
Institute June 9-13.
The
institute offers the Infinity Project Curriculum to participating
high school teachers.
“The
Infinity Project features a curriculum that
helps students understand the real world relevance
of engineering, science and math," said
Dr. Arun Kulkarni, professor of computer science.
“It makes the study of formulas, for example,
more interesting than a presentation on a chalkboard."
UT
Tyler was awarded a $44,000 grant to set up
an Infinity Project Center that serves as a
professional development site for high school
teachers. The center also provides a yearlong
technical support for high school classrooms.
Doug
Rummel from St. Mark’s School of Texas
served as the master teacher for the summer
institute. Rummel is one of the top Infinity
Project instructors in the state.
