Grad Student Awarded
Smithsonian Internship
UT Tyler graduate student Donna
Giroux was accepted to the Smithsonian Institute
internship program at the National Portrait
Gallery in Washington, D.C.
The Tyler resident, who is
studying journalism and art history in the UT
Tyler master of arts in interdisciplinary studies
program, is spending seven weeks this summer
in the gallery’s Office of the Center
for Electronic Research and Outreach Services.
During the structured learning
experience, Giroux is conducting biographical
research, working on the Web site and engaging
in other projects that are central to the programs
of the gallery. The internship provides knowledge
and skills as well as contact with accomplished
professionals.
Dr. Jill Blondin, assistant
professor of art, recommended Giroux for the
internship.
“Giroux
is an excellent student in art history and has
volunteered in the art department’s slide
library at UT Tyler,” Blondin said. “I
hope that her experience with the National Portrait
Gallery will encourage other art students to
apply for museum internships.”
