President’s
Appreciation Week March 24-28
Dr.
Mabry has proclaimed the week of March 24-28 as President's
Appreciation Week at UT Tyler.
Replacing the former Employee Appreciation Week, activities
will be held daily and will include a universitywide luncheon
on Friday. All offices will remain open during the week and
participation requires the approval of the supervisor and
coordination tominimize service disruption.

Fair Participants
UT
Tyler nursing student Kimberly McDuffie measures Jan Van Pelt’s
height during the health fair March 6 in the University Center.
The fair, sponsored by the DREAM Team and the Office of Student
Services, included free blood pressure checks, BMI, height/weight
measures, visual acuity screenings, diabetes risk assessments,
body fat analysis, five-minute chair massages and door prizes.
Alumni
Association Membership Campaign Begins
The UT Tyler Alumni Association spring membership campaign
is being held March 17-28.
“The
fall membership campaign resulted in a 21 percent membership
increase,’’ said Dana Khan, alumni coordinator.
“Please support your university by becoming an associate
or regular member of this important organization.’’

Tyler Forms Student Branch of Engineers Organization
A student branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers has been established at The University of Texas
at Tyler.
IEEE is a professional organization for electrical, electronic
and computer engineers. Through its members, the organization
is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer
engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications
to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics. Founded
in 1884, IEEE has regional chapters throughout the world.

Palestine
Campus Site of Electronic Meeting
The
UT Tyler Palestine campus served as host to an "Electronic
Town Hall Meeting" for Sen. Todd Staples on March 11.
Staples
was in Austin for the Legislative session and the "e-town
hall" meeting was held via videoconference.
Through
the use of UT Tyler audiovisual equipment, Staples was able
to communicate with members of the Palestine community on
various issues.

Intramural
Bowling Results Announced
Ryan
Watson placed first in the UT Tyler intramural bowling tournament
Feb. 28.
Results of the individual tournament are as follows (three
games bowled):
First
Place - Ryan Watson - 162.6 avg.
Second Place - Josh Payne - 160 avg.
Third Place - Matt Sullivan - 150 avg.
Fourth Place - Vicki Stokes - 149.3 avg.
Fifth Place - Cody Tunstall - 135.6 avg.
Sixth Place - Byron Skaggs - 127.6 avg.
The
team tournament will be during Patriot Days Week in April.


An

Student Builds Electric Vehicle
During
a demonstration on March 7, UT Tyler technology student Charles
Lipe shows the electric vehicle he designed, engineered and
built. The demonstration in the main faculty parking lot followed
a Power Point presentation during which Lipe provided details

High
School Programming Contest Held at UT Tyler

The
UT Tyler Department of Computer Science served as host to
the annual Texas Computer Education Association Area 7 High
School Programming Contest on Feb. 22.
Nine
teams from schools in the region competed for trophies and
medals as well as for qualifying invitations to TCEA’s
state contest to be held in May. Teams attempted to solve
18 problems in three difficulty categories within a two-hour

Tyler to Offer Transfer Preview Night
Transfer Preview Night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday,
March 27, in the University Center.
Students interested in transferring to UT
Tyler will have the opportunity to visit with faculty, staff
and student representatives about their intended major as
well as campus involvement, the admission process and financial
aid.

Early
Childhood Professionals Conference March 22 at UT Tyler
The Tyler Association for the Education of Young Children’s
10th annual Educare Conference will be 8:15 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Saturday, March 22, at The University of Texas at Tyler.
More than 500 early childhood professionals from 23 counties
are expected to attend the event co-sponsored by the Tyler
Association for the Education of Young Children, Texas Department
of Protective & Regulatory Services, ACS Child Care
Services, Smith County Champions for Children Inc., Success
