Four-Day Summer
Schedule Announced
In an effort to reduce operating costs, UT Tyler
will operate on a four-day week, following a
Monday through Thursday schedule, for the summer
of 2003.
The
four-day schedule will commence Monday, May
12, and conclude Friday, Aug. 8.
Administrative
offices will be open at 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
With
rare exceptions, campus buildings will be closed
on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
“While
responding to reductions in state funding, we
are making every effort to inconvenience students
as little as possible. This change will require
some adjustments, and we are working to notify
students early so that they can make the transition,’’
Dr. Dale Lunsford, vice president for student
affairs and external relations, said.
“The
schedule change will reduce energy consumption
on campus this summer and also benefit commuter
students who may be able to reduce their gasoline
consumption with fewer trips to campus,”
he added.
In
February, Governor Perry instructed state agencies
to reduce operating budgets by an amount equal
to 7 percent of state appropriations. UT Tyler
cut over $1 million in planned expenditures.
Classes
will follow a modified course schedule. Notices
of the revised course schedules will be mailed
to those students who have already registered
for the summer sessions. They can access their
new summer schedule via CampusConnect or TeleReg,
the University’s automated student information
systems.
The
new standard class times for Summer I and II
will be 8–10 a.m.; 10:10 a.m.–12:10
p.m.; 12:20–2:20 p.m.; 2:30–4:30
p.m.; and 5-7 p.m. Other evening times will
be by approval of the dean of the college.
The
three-week intersession class times will be
8–11:30 a.m.; 1-4:30 p.m.; and 6-9:30
p.m.
An
online version of the updated summer schedule
will be available, at www.go2uttyler.com, on
Wednesday, April 2.
