Summer
Tennis Day Camp Offers Discounts
The
Second Annual Summer Tennis Day Camps for boys
and girls ages 9-17 will be held in June and
July at UT Tyler.
The
five-day camps designed to teach children to
play tennis are scheduled for 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
June 2-6, June 9-13, June 16-20, July 7-11 and
July 14-18. Levels of training will include:
Orange Level for beginners, Junior Patriot for
intermediate players and Patriot Training for
tournament players.
The
camp curriculum will include many components
besides tennis, such as building friendships,
having fun, enjoying the great outdoors and
learning life skills such as fair play, respect,
hard work and patience.
“We
believe that learning tennis at camp can be
a fun and enjoyable experience," said Ken
Olivier, UT Tyler head tennis coach. “Although
this is a tennis camp, we will participate in
other fun activities throughout the week including
soccer, Frisbee football, arts and crafts, video
games, strategy sessions, fitness and nutrition
training, stretching, water games and more.
One day we will eat lunch by the lake."
Lunch
will be catered daily by Subway with a variety
of sandwiches for the campers to choose from.
Lunchtime will include short, fun, educational
talks focusing on nutrition and the importance
of exercise.
In
case of extreme weather, activities will be
held indoors. Facilities include an air-conditioned
tennis center where campers can go to relax
and get out of the sun. Water will be provided
on court, and participants will be able to drink
regularly throughout the day.
The
instructor/camper ratio will average 1:5 or
one instructor for every five campers.
The camp fee is $175, which includes lunch.
Families with more than one child attending
will receive a 10 percent discount. UT Tyler
students, faculty and staff will receive a 20
percent discount.
