Area
Auto Dealers to Participate in Patriot Golf
Classic
Five
area auto dealers have donated vehicles as prizes
in UT Tyler’s 2003 Patriot Golf Classic
on May 19.
The five vehicles will be placed on par 3 holes
at Hollytree Country Club, site of the tournament.
The first amateur contestant to make a hole-in-one
on one of the par 3 holes will win the vehicle
displayed on that hole.
“We certainly appreciate the community
support that is extended to the university through
this event each year. The generosity of these
dealers adds to the excitement of the tournament,
and we’re extremely grateful,” President
Rodney H. Mabry, said.
The goal for this year’s fundraiser is
$125,000. Proceeds benefit the UT Tyler scholarship
programs for students at the university’s
Tyler, Longview and Palestine campuses.
Participating dealers and the 2003 vehicles
they are providing are King Chevrolet, Tahoe;
Classic Toyota-Mercedes Benz, Toyota Tundra;
Mike Pile Autogroup, Jeep Grand Cherokee; Wagner
Cadillac, Escalade; and Tyler Ford, Thunderbird.
The UT Tyler Patriot Golf Classic will consist
of a field of 36 teams teeing off in the morning
and afternoon. Golfers will play a four-person
shamble format.
Former UT quarterback Major Applewhite will
be the guest speaker at the tournament’s
luncheon for players and sponsors.
With a 22-8 record as a starting quarterback
at Texas, he holds the sixth best record in
university history, as well as the university’s
career record for touchdown passes with 60.
Bryan Rossman, Tom Slack, Amy Gould, Linda Davidson
and Greg Patterson are the volunteer chairs
of the tournament.
