Top Business Students Join Honor Society

The UT Tyler College of Business and Technology inducted 31 undergraduate and graduate students into the Beta Gamma Sigma national business honor society on April 27.

UT Tyler’s Beta Gamma Sigma induction ceremony was held April 27 in Braithwaite Recital Hall

UT Tyler’s Beta Gamma Sigma induction ceremony was held April 27 in Braithwaite Recital Hall.

Also, businessmen Robert Lee Nicols and James I. Perkins were inducted as honorary members for their contributions to the business community. Dr. Vivek K. Pandey, associate professor of finance, was the UT Tyler faculty honoree.

Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest national recognition a student can receive in an undergraduate or master’s program in business or management accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. To be eligible for membership, a student must rank in the upper 7 percent of the junior class, upper 10 percent of the senior class or upper 20 percent of the graduating master’s class.

“Only the best business students in the world can claim membership in Beta Gamma Sigma," said Dr. Cheryl Prachyl, president of the UT Tyler Beta Gamma Sigma chapter. “While almost 300,000 students receive bachelor’s or master’s degrees in business each year, only about 18,000 are inducted into lifetime membership in Beta Gamma Sigma."

Undergraduate inductees were juniors Renato Bittencourt Apene, E. LaVern Campbell, Amanda DeAnn Lowe, Aaron Charles Carver, Katie Haugland, Nicolette R. Jones, Erica Danielle Lingle, Michael Phea, Kellie Patrice Reynolds and Joshua Dewayne Waymire.

Also, seniors Amy Curbo, Stephen Dunklin, Daniel Ryan Erwin, Radu Flore, Crystal Hallum, Jonathan Mark Heddins, Collete Johanna Howard, Allison Devillier McAnally, Heather Dion Miller, Sharon Deanne Ousley and Deborah Anne Stills.

Graduate inductees were Billy Steve Borunda, Carolyn Clayton, Gina Harden, Cristina Gilfillan Jones, Joel Renaud, Karen H. Taylor and Cheng-Bii Wen.

Beta Gamma Sigma was founded as a national organization in 1913. Its mission is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and personal and professional excellence in the practice of business. The Society endeavors to foster in its members an enduring commitment to the principles and values of Beta Gamma Sigma: honor and integrity, pursuit of wisdom and earnestness.
