Barbecue to Feature Tanya Sims and the Bobcats

Once again The UT Tyler Texas “Shootout” Barbecue and Auction will feature food, fun and entertainment on Saturday, May 17.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. on the UT Tyler campus.

There will be more than 100 live and silent auction items, including a thoroughbred colt donated by Tom and Marcia Slack.

Tickets to the barbecue are $75 each and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Proceeds benefit the UT Tyler scholarship program for students at the university’s Tyler, Longview and Palestine campuses.

Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q will cater the event.

Returning for her second performance at The University of Texas at Tyler Texas “Shootout” Barbecue will be Tanya Sims and the Bobcats.

Sims, a UT Tyler alum, is best known for her exact portrayal of the legendary Patsy Cline in the Tyler Civic Theater’s sold out production of “Always, Patsy Cline.”

Her album, Things to Come, is available in two versions. A special version contains a stirring a cappella rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” presented as a personal response to the tragic events of Sept. 11.

This year’s raffle, sponsored by the Patriot Ambassadors, offers a chance to win a 2003 Buick Rendezvous, valued at $26,045, courtesy of Barrett Motor Company. Raffle tickets are $100 each and only 300 will be sold.
