Engineering Students,
Faculty Honored
The
accomplishments of students and faculty were
recognized during the 4th Annual UT Tyler Engineering
Students Banquet, held April 24 at Muntz Library.
Guest
speaker was Arthur W. Ebeling, a Fellow and
Distinguished Lecturer of the American Society
of Mechanical Engineers. Ebeling, who has compiled
information on Indy cars for nearly a half-century,
spoke on "Indy Racing and the Effect of
Aerodynamics on the Car."
During
the awards presentation:

The "Outstanding Senior in Electrical
Engineering" Award was presented to Tonya
Newsom. The "Outstanding Senior in Mechanical
Engineering" Award went to Cecil Willis.

Students presented the "Best Electrical
Engineering Professor" award to Dr. Hassan
El-Kishky and the "Best Mechanical Engineering
Professor" award to Dr. Christine Hailey.

Twenty engineering seniors were recognized
for passing the national eight-hour NCEES
Fundamentals of Engineering Examination that
is one of the requirements in all states for
licensure as a professional engineer.
Seniors
recognized for passing the FE exam were:
Chace Beddingfield, Don Campbell, Nick Cardwell,
Dustin Cummings, Fuad Dawodi, Sean Droptini,
Chris Field, Michael Harris, Will Hopson,
Tobie LaBauve, John Montgomery, Tonya Newsom,
James Oertel, Juan Perez, Willie Rollins,
Robert Roycroft, Frank Sullivan, Cecil Willis,
Bryan Witt and Mark Woodruff.

Six engineering students were recognized for
conducting undergraduate research and co-authoring,
with their faculty research director, a paper
that was published during the past year or
that has been submitted and is currently under
review for publication.
Students
recognized were Sean Droptini, EE senior;
Christy Hedge, ME junior; Catherine Hollingshead,
EE junior; John Montgomery, ME senior; Angela
Riddick, ME sophomore; and JoAnna Swain,
ME senior.

Tobie LaBauve, ME senior, was recognized for
placing first out of 20 competitors in the
poster competition at the ASME Regional Conference
in Houston. His poster presentation was titled
"A Bicycle Torque Sensor."

Juan Perez, EE senior, and Tim Schultz, EE
junior, were recognized for their fourth-place
finish out of 20 competitor teams in the student
design competition at the ASME Regional Conference
in Houston.

UT Tyler American Society of Mechanical Engineers
Student Section officers and UT Tyler Institute
of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Student
Branch officers were introduced.
ASME
Student Section officers for 2003-04 are:
Tiffany Stein, chair; Tony Naseiro, vice
chair; Angela Riddick, secretary; and Heidi
Tryon, treasurer.
IEEE
Student Branch officers for 2003-04 are:
Tim Schultz, chair; Catherine Hollenshead,
vice chair; Daniel Blair, secretary; and
Jon Hollingsworth, treasurer.
