Reception
to Honor Emma Wise for Gift of Alumni Wall

The
Alumni Association will hold a reception
honoring Mrs. Emma F. Wise on Tuesday,
Nov. 11, for her gift of the UT Tyler
Alumni Wall.
The
reception is scheduled for 4 - 6 p.m.
in the University Center lobby, and will
be open to all UT Tyler alumni and guests.
The
alumni wall is the result of a gift by
Mrs. Wise to honor her late husband, Watson
W. Wise, and to honor all graduates of
the university for their scholarly work,
perseverance and life-changing accomplishments.
The wall is in the process of being installed
on the exterior of the University Center.
“This
alumni wall is an ongoing reflection of the generosity of
Mrs. Wise, who has been a continuing supporter of UT Tyler
since its inception as Tyler State College in 1971,"
said Dana Khan, UT Tyler alumni coordinator.“Mrs. Wise
is an outstanding leader in the civic, cultural and educational
life of East Texas."

The first class
of graduates of Tyler State College and Texas Eastern University,
which later became UT Tyler, and the graduates of UT Tyler’s
1998 freshman class, which was the first group of freshmen in the
university’s history, will be highlighted on the wall. The rest
of the almost 20,000 alumni names also will be on plaques that will
complete the large display.
UT Tyler began in 1971 as Tyler
State College, which later became Texas Eastern
University in 1975. The institution joined the
UT System in 1979.
Originally created as an upper
division university serving junior, senior and
graduate level students, the university became
a comprehensive four-year university in 1997.
