Jack
White Honored at Presidential Scholarship Luncheon
UT
Tyler held a Presidential Scholarship luncheon honoring benefactor
Jack White on Friday.
The Jack White
Student Luncheon, held in the University Center, was attended by
recipients of Presidential Scholarships established by White and
his wife, the late Dorothy Fay White.
Honored as UT
Tyler Patriots of the Year in 1990, the Whites have been dedicated
to the academic and cultural life of the university for many years.
Among their numerous contributions, they established a total of
12 endowed Presidential Scholarships at UT Tyler, a number unequaled
by any one contributor.
During the luncheon,
scholarship recipients visited with White and expressed their appreciation
for his generosity.
“I will
be the first in my family to graduate with my bachelor’s degree,
thanks to Jack White,’’ said Michelle Williams, a junior
marketing major. “Without this scholarship, I don’t
think I would be able to make it.’’
“It has
been very nice to not have to worry about finances in college,’’
Kara Sharman, a senior majoring in applied arts and sciences, said.
“I have been able to focus on my grades.’’
