Tyler Theatre to Offer Travel/Study Trip to
Europe
The
UT Tyler theatre program will offer a travel/study
course on Irish and English plays during the
2004 Summer I term.

The
six credit-hour course, open to graduates
and undergraduates, will include a tour
of Ireland, Wales and England June 8-23.
Four classes will be held on campus prior
to the tour. The course will conclude
in July with two classes on campus.
The
cost of the tour is $2,999 per student,
based on a minimum of 10 participants.
Students must also pay regular tuition
and fees. Travel grants are available.

Reservations
will be accepted through Jan. 12 with
final arrangements required by March 30.

The
course will be taught by Wright and Dr.
James Hatfield, professor and director
of theatre.
Wright,
who has traveled extensively in England,
Ireland and Wales, will lead the group
on walking tours of Dublin, Kilkenny and
Galway in Ireland; Llangollen in Wales;
and Chester, Stratford and London in England.
Students
will tour Trinity College and see the
Long Library as well as the Book of Kells.
They will visit Merrion Square, the Writer’s
Museum, G.B. Shaw’s birthplace and
St. Patrick’s Cathedral. In the
evenings, they will attend the Abbey and
Gate theatres.

Kilkenney
Castle |
The
group will travel by private coach into the
Irish countryside to visit Powerscourt Gardens,
Blarney Castle and Kilkenny Castle. Students
will experience an Irish Medieval Banquet in
Bunratty Castle, see Blarney Castle and visit
the Cliffs of Mohre. The group also will visit
Shakespeare’s village of Stratford-Upon-Avon.

The
final stop will be London, where students
will visit Leicester Square, the National
Gallery, Trafalgar Square, White Hall
Palace, the Queen’s Royal Life Guards,
No. 10 Downing Street, Westminster Abbey,
Houses of Parliament, Westminster Bridge
and the London Eye. The group also will
visit the Tower of London, St. Paul’s
Church and the new Globe Theatre – a
replica of Shakespeare’s original
Globe. |
