Tyler LUC Director Resigns to Return to Austin
Dr.
Jolene Lampton has announced her resignation from her position as
director of The University of Texas at Tyler Longview University
Center.
A reception
honoring Dr. Lampton is scheduled for 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16,
at the UT Tyler LUC.
Dr.
Lampton, who has held the position since Aug.
2002, has accepted a position as instructor
at Park University in Austin beginning Oct.
20. A search has begun to appoint a new director.
Dr. John Miller, visiting assistant professor
of technology and current LUC faculty member,
will assume duties as interim director.
“We
are certainly saddened to lose Jolene. She has
been an asset not only to UT Tyler but also
the Longview community. Her commitment to the
LUC has been apparent in her efforts to develop
new programs and increase the community’s
awareness of the center throughout Longview
and surrounding areas,” said President
Mabry.
Since
her appointment last year, Dr. Lampton has reorganized
the LUC staff, developed new course offerings,
managed local student service activities and
on-site registration and supervised the center’s
fiscal services.
“I
am thankful for the opportunity to serve as
director for over a year. The experience has
been most expansive to my career. Clearly, I
have gained professionally during this time
and hope to acquire a similar position in the
near future,” said Dr. Lampton.
Prior
to becoming a member of the UT Tyler staff,
Dr. Lampton served as a senior auditor and coordinator
of compliance at UT System for more than a year.
She also was controller for Austin Community
College.
Located at 3201 North Eastman Road, the LUC
offers four undergraduate degree completion
programs and five graduate programs, in addition
to courses in liberal arts and computer science.
Bachelor
degree completion programs available include
business administration, nursing, technology
and teacher education.
Master’s
level degree programs include business administration, nursing,
educational administration, public administration and technology.
