UT Tyler Women Earn First Win of Season, Men Improve to 3-0

The UT Tyler women’s soccer team scored three goals in the first 28-mintes against Ouachita Baptist to win their first game of the season 3-2 Saturday in Arkadelphia, AR.

Lindsay Lyle put the Lady Patriots (1-2) on the board in the second minute when she scored on an assist from Lindsey Henrie. Cara Janton added a second goal on a penalty kick in the 11th minute, and Henrie scored off a Janton assist in the 28th minute to put UT Tyler in front 3-0. Janton, Henrie, and Erica Nelson led the Lady Patriots with three shots each, as they had 18
total shots and 10 shots on goal. Keeper Christina Williams
made two saves and allowed two goals in the game.

Arwen Hays scored for Ouachita in the 30th minute and in the 90th minute, but the Lady Tigers could not find the net between them. Hays took three of Ouachita’s six shots, and she had two of the Lady Tigers’ four shots on goal.

In men’s action, the UT Tyler Patriots scored two goals within a 12-minute span in the first half, and those two proved to be the only offense needed in their 2-0 non-conference victory over the Ouachita Baptist Tigers Saturday afternoon in Arkadelphia, AR.

Ryan Hatcher scored on a rebound for the Patriots (3-0) in the 32nd minute, and Rommy Kassim added a goal on a penalty kick in the 44th minute, which ended the scoring for the game. The Patriots took 22 shots in the game, led by Zane Hanson’s six,and nine shots were on goal. Kassim and Hatcher led the
Patriots with two each. Patriot goalkeepers Josh Wilson and Geoff Sherman combined for the shutout, as Wilson saved two shots in the first half and Sherman faced no shots on goal in the second half.

Ouachita Baptist (0-3-1) mustered only eight shots in the game against the Patriot defense, and they were held to one shot in the second half after losing two players to red cards early in the second period.

Both squads return to action on Tuesday when they travel to LeTourneau University in Longview; the women play at 5:00 p.m. and the men follow at 7:00 p.m.
