Student Success Seminars to be Held Weekly

Choosing a major, overcoming test anxiety, tips for making good grades and campus safety are some of the topics that will be addressed during Student Success Seminars sponsored by the UT Tyler Academic Enrichment Center.

Designed to help students succeed academically, the weekly seminars are open to all UT Tyler students as well as faculty and staff. Participants can bring their lunches to the lunchtime seminars. Drinks and desserts will be provided.

Seminars this fall include:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 3 – “On the Safe Side,” 4:30-6 p.m., University Pines Clubhouse. Food will be provided.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 10 – “If the Shoe Fits … Choosing a Major That’s Right for You,” noon to 1 p.m., UC 118.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 16 – “Leadership Excellence … What Every Student Needs to Know to Lead Successfully in the 21st Century” presented by David Stein, 12:30-1:30 p.m., UC 118.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 24 – “Don’t Let Your Ice Cream Melt,” noon-1 p.m., UC 118. An evening seminar/ice cream party is scheduled for 5-6:30 p.m. at the University Pines clubhouse.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 30 – “Highlighters, Notecards and Coffee – Tips and Traps for Making the Grade,” 12:30-1:30 p.m., UC 118.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 1 – “Highlighters, Notecards and Coffee – Tips and Traps for Making the Grade,” noon-1 p.m., UC 118. An evening seminar will be held 4-5 p.m. at the University Pines clubhouse, with food provided.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 7 – “I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues – Depression Screening Day,” 12:30-1:30 p.m., UC 118.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 14 – “The Changing Face of Broadcasting and What Lies Ahead” by John Gaston, Television of Etexas general manager, 12:30-1:30 p.m., UC 118.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 21 – “How Difficult Can This Be? – Disability Awareness Day,” 12:30-1:30 p.m., UC 118.
    Wednesday, Oct. 29 – Alcohol Awareness Week seminar (topic TBA), noon-1 p.m., UC 118. An evening seminar will be 7-9 p.m. at the University Pines clubhouse, with food provided.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 5 – “Interviewing to Win” by Krista Richardson, coordinator of career services, noon-1 p.m., UC 118.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 12 – “Racing Hearts and Butterflies – Overcoming Test Anxiety,” noon-1 p.m., UC 118.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 19 – “Preparing for Finals,” noon-1 p.m., UC 118.
