| Groundbreaking
Ceremony Set for LUC Entrance Signage
UT
Tyler will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony for the
Longview University Center entrance signage at 5 p.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 24.
Remarks
will be made by UT Tyler President Rodney H. Mabry and Jim
Roberts, chair of the LUC development council.
A
plaque recognizing Mrs. Merle Mabry, wife of President Mabry,
also will be erected near the entrance.
The
construction of the signage is made possible by the generosity
of 11 supporters of the LUC.

Tyler Cheerleaders Derrick Adams and Amanda Ellis demonstrate
their skills on campus recently. The university’s cheerleading
squad will perform for the first time at the Patriot volleyball
team’s first home game, set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept.

Poeschl says the Presidential Scholarship she received to
attend The University of Texas at Tyler was a “godsend.”
After
graduating from junior college in the spring of 1994, she
hoped to continue her journalism studies at UT Tyler. However,
she lacked the financial resources to attend full-time. “My
fear was that it was going to take a long time for me to graduate
