Emergisoft
Establishes Scholarship Fund

Dr.
Linda Klotz (center), dean of the UT Tyler College of Nursing and
Health Sciences, accepts check for $3,000 from Ash R. Huzenlaub,
chairman and CEO of Emergisoft, and his mother, UT Tyler graduate
Sandra Huzenlaub.
Recognizing
that nursing students attending state-funded universities are facing
ever-rising costs due to leaner higher education budgets, Emergisoft
Corp. has established a $3,000 scholarship fund in the UT Tyler
College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
For 2004 spring
and fall semesters and the 2005 spring semester, two $500 scholarships
will be awarded, one each at the undergraduate and graduate level
to students in nursing school at UT Tyler. A total of six students
will receive scholarships from Texas-based Emergisoft, a leading
provider of emergency department information systems applications.
With more than
1,000 nurses nationwide utilizing Emergisoft’s EDIS technology,
the company continues to be closely aligned to nurses’ educational
needs, particularly at the instructional level. Emergisoft provides
the information systems that manage emergency department workflow
in some of the nation’s leading trauma centers including Mount
Sinai and the Giuliani Trauma Center of Saint Vincent’s Hospital
in Manhattan.
Ash R. Huzenlaub,
chairman and CEO of Emergisoft, grew up in Tyler, and his mother
is a graduate of the UT Tyler College of Nursing.
“We are
so pleased to have a former Tyler resident like Ash, who understands
the value of strong nursing educational institutions, return to
his hometown and offer such a generous scholarship fund to both
our undergraduate and graduate nursing programs,’’ said
Dr. Linda Klotz, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
“With the rising cost of college tuition and related books
and materials, our students will most certainly benefit from this
scholarship, not only during those specific semesters but throughout
their entire educational and career paths.’’
Huzenlaub, a
graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, said his growth as a person
and as an entrepreneur was strongly influenced by the people of
Tyler. “These are people that take an active interest in the
youth of the community and you do not always find that in larger
cities,’’ he said. “It was the doctors, nurses,
educators and other professionals of Tyler who always encouraged
me to pursue my goals and to never think that any objective was
beyond my reach. Now with our success at Emergisoft, we’re
hoping to help others who are working hard to achieve their goals.’’
Emergisoft works
daily with nurses across the country, helping hospitals improve
patient care by applying cutting-edge technology to emergency departments.
“Ensuring that we have highly motivated nurses, particularly
given the current nursing shortage, is central to the long-term
success of our nation’s healthcare system, which is why I’m
very glad to be giving to these emerging healthcare providers,’’
Huzenlaub said. “I would like to encourage others to give
to this program and assist these students who might not otherwise
have the financial ability to complete their education.’’
Huzenlaub added:
“The UT Tyler nursing program plays such a vital role in delivering
expertly trained nurses to hospitals across the Southwest. Tyler
represents the heart of both healthcare education and healthcare
delivery for a major portion of the state of Texas, so Emergisoft
is looking forward to beginning this relationship with Dr. Klotz,
her college and her students. Because technology is so increasingly
critical to the healthcare industry, Emergisoft and Dr. Klotz’s
program have much in common, and I see opportunities for expanding
our relationship in the future.’’
To qualify for
an Emergisoft Scholarship, an applicant must be enrolled full-time
(minimum of 12 credit hours for undergraduate students and nine
credit hours for graduate students) and have a minimum GPA of 3.00
in the UT Tyler College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
