University Presents Grant to Jones Elementary

Dr. David Simmons, Superintendent of Schools, Mrs. Reba Schumacher, Director of Elementary Education, Mr. Michael Berrier, Principal of Jones Elementary School, Dr. Timothy B. Jones, Director of The Principal and Superintendent Institute, and Dr. William Geiger, Dean of the College of Education and Psychology.

The Principal and Superintendent Institute at UT Tyler recently awarded a grant to Jones Elementary School to assist with restructuring projects.

The institute presented a check for $500 to Jones Principal Michael Berrier during the first All Administrator Day at Tyler Independent School District. As part of the presentation, Reba Schumacher, TISD director of elementary education, announced that her office would match the grant provided by the institute. More>>>

The UT Tyler Herrington Patriot Center/Student Government Association and Student Development Team co-sponsored a tennis tournament and pool party at the HPC Friday evening. Campus Community Meeting

Dr. Ferguson discusses the new campus master plan

Dr. Jim Ferguson, vice president for business affairs, presents the revised campus master plan on Friday, during a meeting open to the entire campus community at the library. An additional meeting will be scheduled for those who were unable to attend. The revised campus master plan is scheduled for review by the UT Board of Regents in November. Construction underway or scheduled to start soon includes an additional parking lot north of the Cowan Center, renovation of the campus lakes, soccer field, power plant, baseball/softball facility, student apartments and Engineering, Science and Technology building.

Fitness Classes Announced

The UT Tyler Herring Patriot Center will offer a two-week trial of sample classes that may be held there this fall.

If interest is high, each class will be scheduled on a 6-week basis. More>>>

Engineering/Computer Science Awarded Equipment Grant

UT Tyler has been awarded an equipment grant that will provide digital signal processor hardware and software for student use in the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

The Texas Engineering and Technical Consortium/Texas Instruments grant, valued at $15,940, will provide TMS320C64X digital signal processor starter kits hardware along with Code Composer tools for software development, said Dr. Mukul Shirvaikar, associate professor of electrical engineering. Vaughn Recreation and Therapy Pool

Apartments – The design/build team has been selected. Project underway. Details>>>

Baseball/Softballs Fields – An architect has been selected, and the design is underway.

Dormitory – An architect has been selected to design the building.

Parking Lot – Construction continues on a 245-space parking lot in front of the Cowan Center (facing Varsity Drive). Details>>>

Premier Soccer Field – Request for proposals was issued on Aug. 25. Proposals will be opened on Sept. 22.

Longview University Center monument signs – Project will be re-bid with some alterations to the design.

Palestine Signs – A contract has been awarded; work to begin in September.
