Engineering/Computer
Science Awarded Equipment Grant
UT Tyler has been awarded an equipment grant
that will provide digital signal processor hardware
and software for student use in the College
of Engineering and Computer Science.
The Texas Engineering and Technical
Consortium/Texas Instruments grant, valued at
$15,940, will provide TMS320C64X digital signal
processor starter kits hardware along with Code
Composer tools for software development, said
Dr. Mukul Shirvaikar, associate professor of
electrical engineering.
“The
intention is to expose students to modern real
time systems and train them to use state-of-the
art tools. This will prepare the students well
for industry," Shirvaikar said. “We
plan to use the equipment immediately in the
Computer Architecture course this semester and
in other courses in the near future."
TETC is a consortium of Texas
public and independent universities that offer
engineering and computer science programs and
technology companies that employ graduates of
those programs.
In
efforts to increase the number of electrical
and computer engineering graduates from Texas
schools, TETC has partnered with Texas Instruments
to offer DSP hardware and software for student
use. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating
Board administers the grant program.
