Fitness Classes Announced

The UT Tyler Herring Patriot Center will offer a two-week trial of sample classes that may be held there this fall.

If interest is high, each class will be scheduled on a 6-week basis.

Sample classes will include:

Intro Kung Fu (12:15 p.m. Sept. 8 and 5:15 p.m. Sept. 17) – Taught by student-teacher of Tyler Kung Fu and Fitness, Adam Canion. The Kung Fu Introduction program is a basic course for the beginning martial arts students. This course will cover the fundamentals of kicking, punching, blocking and the footwork necessary for self-defense. The class is structured and catered to meet the needs of both the male and female beginner student. Not only will students receive a great workout, but they will also learn some skills that will be with them for life. Uniform Required $39.00

Advanced Weight Training (3 p.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 8-9, 11-12, 15-16, 18-19) – Taught by strength and conditioning specialist Jeff Holland. This class consists of advanced weight training techniques to illicit maximum results in strength, power and overall muscle conditioning.

Kickboxing (5:15 p.m. Sept. 8 and 12:15 p.m. Sept. 15) – Taught by Adam, Kim and Brandon of Tyler Kung Fu and Fitness. This class will elevate your heart rate while improving flexibility and power. Set to music, it’s a great cardio workout.

Water Aerobics (12:15 p.m. Sept. 9 and 5:15 p.m. Sept. 16) – Taught by the well renowned Gay Tyra. This “wet and wild” class consists of various aquatic movements that will improve cardiovascular function and muscle conditioning.

Power Fusion (5:15 p.m. Sept. 9 and 12:15 p.m. Sept. 16) – Taught by Bonnie Daniell. This class fuses the beauty and power of Pilates and yoga to increase flexibility, improve relaxation and produce maximum strength and toning results!

Yoga (12:15 p.m. Sept. 10 and 5:15 p.m. Sept. 15) – Taught by Megan Richey, a senior speech communications major at UT Tyler. She has been practicing yoga for years, and now desires to share her practice with others. This class covers the basics of yoga at a beginner’s pace. It offers a non-competitive, stress reducing, muscle toning practice.

Beginning Weight Training (5:15 p.m. Sept. 10 and 12:15 p.m. Sept. 18) – Taught by strength and conditioning specialist Jeff Holland. This class has been designed for those with little or no experience in weight training. Jeff will patiently orient participants in the basics and safety of resistance training and guide them step by step in designing their own weight-training regimen. You’ll be amazed at the strength, power and toning results resistance training can produce.

Dance Aerobics (5:15 p.m. Sept. 11 and 12:15 p.m. Sept. 17) – Taught by Kelli Hannis of UT Tyler Admissions. A fun, yet challenging 60 min aerobics class set to great music! Class will include a warm-up and stretch, dance aerobics, strengthening and cool-down with stretch.
