Student Apartments to
be Named ‘Patriot Village’
UT Tyler’s
new 200-bed student apartment complex will be named Patriot Village,
as the result of a contest that drew 100 entries from the student
body.
The winners
of the naming contest were Laura L. Hickerson, who was the first
to submit the name Patriot Village, and Michael D. Brewer, who was
the first to submit the second of the top two choices -- Patriot
Crossing.
“I was
very pleased with the number of entries, as it shows a great deal
of support for this project from the student body,’’
said David Hill, director of residence life.
Four judges
picked their top 10 choices from the list of entries. Those choices
were then forwarded for approval from UT Tyler President Rodney
Mabry, Hill said.
The judges were
Dr. Dale Lunsford, Dr. Paul Streufert, Kimberly Hill and Porshe
Chiles. “This selection of judges gave a wide range of viewpoints
since there was an administrator, a faculty member and two students,’’
Hill added.
The apartment
complex, which will be owned and operated by the university, is
planned for completion by the fall.
