‘Oedipus at Colonus’
Students
in Dr. Paul Streufert’s World Literature Through Renaissance
class (ENGL 2362) perform a scene from “Oedipus at Colonus’’
on campus recently. The class put on brief scenes from plays for
a unit on Greek tragedy. Students performing (from left) are Jeff
Holland as Oedipus, Brooke Busby as a soldier, George Gordon as
Antigone, Austin Parsons as a soldier and April Thompson as Creon.
Other members of the group, dressed in black T-shirts, played the
Chorus.
“The exercise is intended to help students
understand the difference between literature that is meant to be
read and literature that is intended to be heard and performed,’’
Dr. Streufert said.
"Oedipus at Colonus" is a tragedy written
by Sophocles and originally performed in Athens in 405 B.C.
