UT Tyler Site
of Institute for Scientific Literacy
The
University of Texas at Tyler served as host to the Institute
for Scientific Literacy, specifically designed for area
middle school science teachers.
The
institute began on June 7 and concluded on June 25, with
an intense and focused exploration into inquiry-based science
instruction centering on life science topics and issues. More>>>

Psychology
Grads Score Highest on State Exam
Graduates
of The University of Texas at Tyler master’s program
in psychology scored higher than students in any other
public university in Texas on the Licensed Professional
Counselor exam, Dr. Rodney Mabry, UT Tyler president, announced.
Over
a three-year reporting period from September 2000 to August
2003, 100 percent of UT Tyler testers passed the exam to
become licensed professional counselors, according to the
Texas State Board of Examiners of Licensed Professional

Extravaganza
UT
Tyler baseball player Tyler Terry of White Oak takes part
in the Second Annual UT Tyler Baseball Extravaganza at the
TISD St. Louis School for Exceptional Children this summer.
Members of the UT Tyler baseball program annually visit the
school during July to play baseball with students, pass out

WelcomeFest activities through Sept. 3.

is coordinated by the UT Tyler Office of Student Development,
with student organizations, campus offices and individuals

Nursing
to Hold ‘Celebrating
Traditions’ Event Aug. 27
The
UT Tyler nursing program will hold its first ever “Celebrating
Traditions’’ gathering for students, faculty
and staff on Friday, Aug. 27, at the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan
Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Undergraduate
nursing students, faculty and staff from Tyler, Palestine
and Longview campuses will attend the event, scheduled
for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The gathering is planned to take place
at the beginning of each semester to celebrate student
successes and acknowledge faculty accomplishments. More>>>

Participate in Summer Research
Seven
UT Tyler undergraduate students worked on research projects
with faculty mentors as participants in the Louis Stokes
Alliance for Minority Participation’s 2004 Summer
Research Academy.
Funded
support for UT Tyler’s involvement in the program
was provided by the UT System LSAMP via a grant from the

Bluebonnet
Artist Visits Campus
Artist
Margaret Lane recently visited the UT Tyler Office of the
President, where one of her oil paintings has been displayed
since the early 1980s. The Tyler resident, who spent
several years in Lindale, is best known for her bluebonnet
