Services
for Nina Rogers
TYLER — Services
for Nina Yulanda Rogers will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug.
31, at Rose Heights Church of God with Carn Catherwood officiating.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Hoover Cemetery
in Big Sandy under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Miss Rogers was born Aug. 6, 1959, in Denton to Vernon and Leah
Rogers. She was a graduate of Big Sandy High School. Miss Rogers
received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the
University of Texas at Tyler.
In the capacity as Registrar at the University of Texas at
Tyler, Miss Rogers had the opportunity to work with thousands
of students. She was an education enthusiast and gave herself
completely in her efforts to encourage many individuals
to pursue higher education. Miss Rogers was an active member
of the American, Southern and Texas associations of collegiate
registrar‘s and admissions
officers. She was listed in Who’s Who Among America’s
Teachers, The World Who’s Who of Women, nominated as International
Woman of the Year and 2000 Notable American Women. Miss Rogers
was a member of the Big Sandy Chamber of Commerce and a charter
member of the Big Sandy Rotary International, where she served
as Rotary president for two years and on the Rotary board of
directors for five years.
Miss Rogers was passionate about life. Her energy, enthusiasm
and dedication were infectious to all around her. Through her
battle with cancer, Miss Rogers remained a dedicated daughter,
sister, friend, coworker and mentor, showing more concern for
others than her own situation. Every individual who knew her
will be touched by her passing. Her shoes can never be filled
though many walk in her footsteps.
Miss Rogers was preceded in death by her mother, Leah B. Rogers.
Survivors include her father, Vernon Ray Rogers of Big Sandy;
and one sister, JoAnn Rogers and
JoAnn’s fiance, Jonathan
P. DeWyer.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today, Aug. 30, at Lloyd
James Funeral Home.
