| UT Health Clinic Opens
Aug. 30 on UT Tyler Campus
The University of Texas Health Clinic will open Monday, Aug.
30, on The University of Texas at Tyler campus, UT Tyler President
Rodney H. Mabry announced.
Operated by
The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler, the clinic will
provide health care services to UT Tyler students and employees.
A grand opening will be held 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the clinic’s temporary site at 3410
Varsity Drive, south of the UT Tyler engineering building.
“This is just the first of many collaborative efforts between
UT Tyler and The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler. It
just makes sense for these two institutions to work together to
meet what is one of our greatest needs on campus – to provide
high quality health care services for our students, faculty, and
staff,” President Mabry said.
“Our students and their parents have consistently expressed
to us that a campus health-care facility is a high priority. We
have listened and we have acted; and, by developing a partnership
with our sister institution, we were able to address that concern
and make it a reality,” he said.
UTHCT President
Dr. Kirk A. Calhoun said, “The
medical services provided at our sister institution, UT Tyler,
will serve as a collaborative effort that meets both of our missions.
“We look forward not only to bringing clinical care to
UT Tyler, but also to working in partnership with UT Tyler to offer
expanded medical education and facets of UTHCT’s cutting-edge
medical research in the future,” he said.
Plans are under way to construct a new building to house the
clinic within the next two years. It will be located at the intersection
of Patriot Avenue and University Boulevard, near the west entrance
of the campus.
The UT Health Clinic will offer a variety of primary care services
including evaluation and management of non-emergency health issues,
health and wellness visits, immunizations (flu shots, hepatitis,
MMR, and more), lab and testing services (cholesterol, blood sugar,
urinalysis, asthma treatments, and more), and prescription services
at a discounted rate.
Kerri Scruggs,
RN, will be the on-site nurse practitioner for the clinic. Dr.
Ellen Remenchik will serve as the medical director. Clinic hours
are 8 a.m. – noon Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
and 1 – 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
Dr. Mabry
and UTHCT President Dr. Kirk A. Calhoun will speak at a brief
ceremony during Wednesday’s open
house. Lunch will be available for students and employees, as
well as tours of the clinic.
