Dr. Ralph Hippenstiel, chair and professor of electrical engineering, Hassan El-Kishky, associate professor of electrical engineering, and electrical engineering senior Chad Frick participated in the 38 th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers. The conference was Nov. 7-10 in Pacific Grove, Calif.
Frick presented the paper "Modulation Identification Using Neural Networks and Wavelet Domain Based Approaches." The paper is authored by Frick, Hippenstiel, El-Kishky and electrical engineering graduate student Sandeep Dataprasad.
El-Kishky presented the paper "On Time Series Analysis and Signal Classification-Part 1: Fractal Dimensions." The paper is authored El-Kishky, Hippenstiel and electrical engineering graduate student Penio “Pepe’’ Radev.
Hippenstiel chaired the session on Digital Signal Processing Applications.
Dr. Brian Taylor, assistant professor of chemistry, gave an invited presentation on “The Dynamics of Helium Metal Hydride van der Waals Complexes” in the Computational Chemistry Symposium during the 60 th Southwest Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Fort Worth.
Danijela Kebir, senior chemistry major, presented a paper at the LSAMP Undergraduate Student Research Conference in El Paso. The paper, “Rotational Energy Transfer in Superthermal Helium Metal Hydride Collisions,’’ is co-authored by Dr. Brian Taylor and Jason Distefano.
Undergraduate chemistry majors Scott Brown, John Brannon Gary, Danijela Kebir and Dustin Porter made presentations on their undergraduate research projects during the November meeting of the East Texas Section of the American Chemical Society. The meeting was hosted by the Department of Chemistry and the ACS Student Affiliate Chapter.
