Film Series Presents ‘Remains of the Day’

The Friends of the Arts and the UT Tyler theatre department will present “Remains of the Day’’ Dec. 15, as part of the Third Wednesday Film Series.

The film starring Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson and Christopher Reeve, will be shown at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Cowan Center lecture hall, Room 1009. Tickets are $4. UT Tyler, Tyler Junior College and Texas College students will be admitted free with valid ID.

This semester, the series of classic, documentary and foreign films features the work of independent artists Ismail Merchant and James Ivory.

In “Remains of the Day,’’ a rule-bound head butler’s world of manners and decorum in the household he maintains is tested by the arrival of a housekeeper who falls in love with him in post-WWI Britain. The possibility of romance and his master's cultivation of ties with the Nazis challenge his carefully maintained veneer of servitude.

Film presentations are introduced by Jim Yancy, lecturer in opera appreciation; critic Jon Perry; and Dr. James Hatfield, associate professor and art program chair.

For more information about the film series, call 903-566-7110.
